A factitive verb takes a DO with an object complement. In Hebrew, piel verbs can be factitives. video
We elected Jeb president of the consistory.
- “We” is the subject.
- “elect” is the factitive verb.
- “Jeb” is the DO.
- “president” is the object complement.
It would make no sense to write “We elected Jeb.” The reason for this is that “elect” is a factitive and requires an object complement.
